Geology Student Syd Joheim Serves as Student Ambassador for the Paleontological Society at GSA Connects 2025

This year, Syd Joheim, our geology major, was selected to serve as a Student Ambassador for the Paleontological Society at GSA Connects 2025. With the society’s financial and professional support, they attended GSA’s annual conference for the first time, where they connected with fellow scientists and paleontologists and presented their own research.
The ambassador program focuses on outreach and sparking interest in paleontology through social media engagement, while also providing participants with valuable opportunities for networking and collaboration. Syd described the experience as both exciting and rewarding—highlighting the chance to meet new colleagues, share their passion for fossils, and, as they joked, “spend way too much money at some of the fossil booths.”
Congratulations, Syd, on this incredible experience and recognition!
