Curriculum Vitae

Zach Baumgarten grew up in Monticello, Arkansas, where he also attended college. After graduating, he worked in congressional and campaign roles before joining the U.S. Army in 2011. As an infantryman with the 5th Battalion, 20th Infantry Regiment at Fort Lewis, Washington, he deployed to southern Afghanistan in 2012 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

After leaving the Army, Baumgarten worked for the state of Washington before returning to Arkansas to pursue a dual degree through the UA Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law and Clinton School of Public Service. He earned his Master of Public Service in 2020 and Juris Doctor in 2021. After graduating and being admitted to practice in Arkansas, he worked at the Center for Arkansas Legal Services, where his practice included veterans benefits, discharge upgrades, estate planning and criminal record sealing.

Baumgarten returned to Bowen in 2023 as pro bono program director for the Veterans Legal Services Clinic and became director of the clinic in 2025. In that role, he teaches practical lawyering skills, oversees student casework involving VA disability and discharge upgrade appeals, and leads the clinic’s pro bono work.
