Flannery Publishes Article on Military Benefit Inequities
Associate Professor Michael T. Flannery of UALR’s William H. Bowen School of Law announced the publication of his article, “Military Disability Election and the Distribution of Marital Property Upon Divorce” in the Catholic University Law Review ( 56 Cath. U. L. Rev. 297 (2007). The article discusses the lack of uniformity among the states with respect to the distribution of military retirement benefits at divorce, especially with respect to disability pay, the effect of the Uniformed Services Former Spouses Protection Act, and it recommends an approach for states to handle the issue. Flannery, who joined the Bowen School in 2003, is a former assistant city solicitor in Philadelphia representing the Department of Human Services in child dependency litigation and the County Office of Mental Health in mental health law litigation. He also worked in the special litigation division, focusing on prison riot litigation. In 1994 Professor Flannery became an associate for the law firm of Gold-Bikin, Clifford and Young in Norristown, Pa. Before coming to UALR, Flannery taught at Villanova University School of Law.View more stories in News
