Women’s Basketball Team Earns Place in WNIT
After receiving its first ever Sun Belt West Division Championship and competing in its first ever Sun Belt Tournament semi-final game, the UALR women’s basketball team continues an historic season with the school’s first ever automatic berth to the Women’s National Invitation Tournament. The complete bracket with all 48 teams will be available on Monday, March 17, after the NCAA selections are announced. The Trojans finished the Sun Belt Tournament with a school record of 23 wins after defeating Florida International 57-52 in the quarterfinals. UALR lost in the semi-finals to Middle Tennessee State University 57-45. UALR finished the regular season with a school record of 14 conference victories, clinching the West Division title after defeating the University of Louisiana-Monroe 56-46. Thirty-one teams will receive automatic bids to the WNIT, one from each conference. The remaining 17 berths will be filled by the top teams available based on the selection criteria. The Trojans secured the spot by finishing the regular season in second place in the Sun Belt Conference. The opening rounds of the WNIT are March 19-21 at campus sites.View more stories in News
