Alumni Profile: Pastor Provides Counsel Globally
Attorney Veronica Pastor, a 1989 graduate of UALR, has leapt from Spain to Little Rock to Washington, D.C., providing counsel globally.
Pastor, who grew up in Spain, has been assistant general counsel at Intelsat, the largest provider of fixed satellite services worldwide in Washington, D.C., since 2004. She oversees legal activities in Europe, Middle East, and Africa, negotiating sales and vendor procurement contracts and ventures among customers and foreign governments. She also establishes foreign subsidiaries to optimize tax treatment and minimize risk; advises the sales force on trade restrictions with Sudan, Iran, and Cuba; manages outside counsel; and supervises contracts managers in Washington and London.

Her background for this work started with the liberal arts education she received at UALR.
“I showed up on the first day of school as a foreign student to enroll, not knowing any better, and lots of people really helped me,” said Pastor, who graduated magna cum laude. “Within a year, I was enrolled in the Donaghey Scholars Program. I owe a big debt of gratitude to UALR.”
The alumna who is fluent in Spanish, French, and Italian went on to receive a juris doctorate from Georgetown University Law Center and was admitted to the bar in New York, England, and Wales.
Her career in Washington, D.C., has included serving as vice president and assistant general counsel focusing on access cost reform and network security issues at Global Crossing, a broadband, voice, data, and multimedia communications company.
In London, following positions at firms and corporations in both cities, she polished her commercial negotiation skills as assistant general counsel at Flag Telecom Ltd. Her linguistic skills have helped her draft construction contracts, joint venture negotiations, licenses, and permits. Among other responsibilities, she negotiated employment and consultancy agreements, advised on employment commencement and termination in European jurisdictions, provided counsel for a Congressional hearing and strategy for regulatory compliance, and supervised other lawyers.
Pastor is a member of the Washington, D.C., chapter of the UALR Alumni Association.
