International Celebration Expands to Week of Culture, Community, Fun
UALR expands its ninth annual International Day celebration to a week’s worth of food, education, and fun designed to increase awareness of cultural similarities and differences. A highlight includes a noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, panel discussion on the world impact of the American election. The noon to 1 p.m. discussion at the Donaghey Student Center Leadership Lounge – “The End of the World as We Know it? Global Perspectives on the Elections” – will be facilitated by KTHV anchor Craig O’Neill and feature UALR professors David Brice on international business, Joe Giammo on domestic politics, Andy Drummond on European public opinion, Terry Richard on Latin America, and Jacek Lubecki on the Middle East, Eastern Europe and Russia. The week began with a film festival titled “Travel Round the World” that continues through Wednesday, Nov. 19. International films will air each night in the Residence Hall Commons; admission is free. All week, students, faculty, and staff celebrated the wide world of cultures with interactive displays, posters, and food. UALR Intercultural Communication students presented educational posters on communicating across cultures including Japan, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, India, China, Latin America, and Jamaica. The closing event of the week will be an interfaith dialogue lunch at noon Nov. 20 in DSC Room 205 G. To make reservations for this event, visit the International Celebration website.
