Women’s Basketball Receives Votes on Division I Top 25 Coaches’ Poll
The UALR women’s basketball team received two votes on the USA Today ESPN Division I Top 25 Coaches’ Poll released Jan. 6. This is the second time this season that the Trojans have received votes on the poll.
Also this week, sophomore Chastity Reed earned her first career Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week honor after helping lead the UALR Trojans to a 3-0 conference start. The New Orleans, La., native recorded three straight career highs in three games including a 35 point performance at Western Kentucky to give the Trojans their first-ever victory over the Lady Toppers.
The 6-1 forward leads the Sun Belt Conference in points averaging 30.3 in conference games and is third overall leading the Trojans with a 16.5 average. Reed also leads the team in rebounds averaging 8.2 per contest.
Jan. 3, UALR’s Lady Trojans recorded the team’s first victory over Western Kentucky 78-66 at E.A. Diddle Arena snapping a 17 game winning streak by the Lady Toppers. The Trojans are 11-3 overall and 3-0 in Sun Belt Conference action.
The first time the Trojans received votes on the coaches’ poll was on Dec. 9 of this season after defeating No. 17 Oklahoma State. UALR also received two votes on the Associate Press Top 25 Division I Poll that same week. This was the first time in school history the Trojans had received votes on any poll.
UALR’s Lady Trojans continue Sun Belt basketball action Jan. 7 as they host North Texas at 7 p.m. at the Jack Stephens Center.
