Eleanor Mapes Orts Francis, an English professor at UALR for more than 33 years, died Oct. 20 in San Marcos, Texas. She was 96.

She played the violin in the Community Orchestra and was a member of the Chamber Music Society of Little Rock. She also played the piano. In 1979, she and Theodore Francis wrote the book, “People, Strings, and Things.”
