“We are thrilled to start a scholarship fund in Audiology and Speech Pathology honoring Nan Ellen East,” said Dr. Angie Brenton, dean of the College of Professional Studies. “Nan Ellen has a distinguished record over her lifetime of advocating for children with disabilities.”
East, the daughter of UALR patron H. Tyndall Dickinson and the sister of Haskell Dickinson, is the executive director of the Disability Rights Center, the Arkansas protection and advocacy system for people with disabilities.
“The state of Arkansas has advanced resources and policies because of her tireless work,” Brenton said. “She has been an inspiration to our students and faculty and a driving force behind our Community Development Council, which she has chaired for the past five years.”
