Management Major Places in Top 2 Percent in International Contest
Robert L. Bandy Jr. of Little Rock, a senior management major in the UALR College of Business, placed fifth out of 224 worldwide teams in the Foundation International Spring 2010 Challenge.
Developed by Capsim Management Simulations Inc., the Foundation International Challenge is an online simulation in which university teams compete running virtual companies. Students must make business decisions in management, human resources, operations, research and development, finance, total quality management, sustainability, and marketing.
“I enjoyed the Capsim competition very much,” Bandy said. “My analytical personality and competitive drive gave me the motivation to continue on throughout each round.”
He graduated in May and planned to work as a home comfort consultant at Middleton Heating and Air, where he’s worked for more than two years. “They have been one of the best companies I’ve ever worked for in the last 16 years.” While working full time, he plans to pursue an MBA at UALR.
UALR students enroll in the simulation as a requirement in Dr. Nancy Landrum’s Business Policy and Strategy course. The Spring Challenge included teams from George Washington University, University of Oregon, University of Texas – Arlington, University of Texas – Dallas, University of Arkansas – Fayetteville, Brigham Young University, University of California, University of Massachusetts, Baylor University, and other universities in the U.S., Canada, Germany, Slovakia, and other locations around the world.
