UALR Golfers Land All-Academic Status

UALR’s men’s golf team has received All-Academic Team honors from the Golf Coaches Association of America, recognizing the team’s grade point average of 3.0 or above. The team’s average: 3.30.

In addition to the GCAA honor, seniors Linus Gillgren and Keith Becker earned a spot on the Capital One Academic All-District VI At-Large First Team. The two also received Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar Team honors last season, along with senior Felipe Velazquez.

Eight of head coach Wyn Norwood’s 10 golfers were recognized by the Sun Belt Conference for academic achievement at year’s end. Gillgren, Becker, Velazquez and Johann Voss were all named to the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s list for achieving a GPA of 3.5 or above.

Nick Zimmerman, Luis Cedeno, Brad Graham, and Ben Etchebarne all earned a spot on the Sun Belt Academic Honor Roll for achieving a GPA of 3.0 to 3.49.

The GCAA recognized a total of 59 Division I programs for achieving a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2010-11 season, with DePaul winning an Academic National Championship for the second-straight year with a 3.66 team GPA.

To be eligible for GCAA All-Academic Team honors a college of university must submit the grade points earned and hours attempted for each player on its official squad list for the academic year. Alabama, Brown, Butler, Missouri and Yale were all awarded President’s Special Recognition status for earning team GPAs of 3.50 or better.
