Cinco de Mayo Event to Benefit Scholarship
LULAC – the League of United Latin American Citizens – will dedicate a portion of ticket sales to its annual Cinco de Mayo celebration to the UALR Patricia Guardado Endowed Scholarship fund.
The scholarship honors the UALR student majoring in international business who was killed last October.
One dollar from every $10 admission ticket to the noon to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 6, festival at the Clear Channel Metroplex will be donated to the Guardado Scholarship Fund.
“A Celebration of the Latino Foods, Culture, and Families” is the theme of this year’s festival.
“The event provides an opportunity for Arkansans to become better acquainted with the diversity of foods, rich cultures, and history of many Latin countries as well as providing a host of entertainment bands from mariachis to salsa,” said Dr. Terry Trevino-Richard, professor of sociology and anthropology, who is helping organize the event. “Please help us honor the goal of Patricia Guardado, who was attending school to achieve the American Dream, by assisting us in awarding a scholarship to a Latino student attending classes at UALR.”
