Daughter of UALR Founder Dies
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 30, for Carolyn Larson Harman, the 85-year-old daughter of John A. Larson, the founder and first president of Little Rock Junior College, UALR’s predecessor institution.
The service will be at Griffin Leggett Healey and Roth Funeral Home, 5800 W. 12th St. in Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to UALR Office of Development, 2801 S. University Ave., Little Rock, Ark. 72204; Heifer International, 1 World Ave., Little Rock, Ark., or a charity of one’s choice.
The widow of William M. Harman, Carolyn Larson Harman attended LRJC during her father’s tenure and later graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. A long-time employee of Corn Insurance Agency, she enjoyed international travel and was known for her humor, wit, and avid bridge playing.
Her father, for whom UALR’s first building was named, was instrumental in establishing LRJC in 1927, and was its first president until his death in 1949.
Carolyn Larson Harman is survived by her brother, John A. Larson of Salisbury, N.C.; nephew John “Bo” Larson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; and niece Laura A. Wells of Bartlett, Ill.
