Campus Earns Sustainability Bronze

UALR has achieved Bronze Status in the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment, and Reporting System (STARS), an initiative of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. “For the past three years, the Sustainability Committee has worked diligently to meet campus sustainability indicators as outlined in the STARS standards,” said Dr. Nancy Landrum, associate professor of management and past chair of the UALR Sustainability Committee.  “Our submission details all of our campus sustainability activities and the information can be found at the STARS website.” The campus-wide achievement recognizes UALR’s numerous efforts and initiatives in sustainability. Among those are:

• Farm2Work program delivering locally grown farm products to campus
• Campus garden demonstrating organic methods
• LEED-certified building projects
• Free sustainability discussion courses for students, staff, and faculty
• Annual research and teaching sustainability micro-grants
• Restoration of the Coleman Creek area
• Energy efficiency
• Electric car charging station
• Composting efforts
• E-cycling
