Two UALR Donaghey Scholars students joined a group of four other Arkansas students when they were awarded the prestigious NASA Space Grant Work Force Development Fellowship.

As part of the fellowship award, Saad Azam and Bukola Odeniyi will intern for 10 weeks with scientists at a NASA facility this summer.

The Space Grant Work Force Development Project is an opportunity for undergraduate or graduate students.

Azam’s project, “Heteroatom doped carbon nanostructure for photocatalytic energy production and storage,” involves working with a renewable carbon source, doping it with Nitrogen, Sulfur, or Phosphorus, and measuring its application in energy production and super capacitors.

“This opportunity is important because I will be able to work with NASA scientists and have access to resources for my project that are not accessible in a university setting,” Azam said.

According to Azam, he and Odeniyi will find out in April which NASA facility they will complete their internships at.

Azam and Odeniyi are third year students in the Donaghey Scholars Program. The honors program is open to all majors at UALR and offers a distinctive learning environment for undergraduate studies.
