The ninth edition of a best-selling textbook co-authored by a University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences professor has been released.

Dr. Richard Zraick is co-author of The Voice and Voice Therapy, one of the most widely used texts for courses in voice production, voice disorders, and clinical methods and practice in communication sciences and disorders.

Zraick specializes in adult voice disorders and serves on the faculty of the Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology, a consortium program offered by UAMS and UALR.

The textbook offers up-to-date evidence-based practice and outcomes assessment, according to Pearson, the book’s publisher.

The ninth edition has been revamped with updates to “key content and supportive pedagogy … and more information about the latest technological advancements in the field,” according to Pearson’s website.

Additional updates include expanded learning objectives at the start of each chapter and “Check Your Knowledge” boxes to stimulate critical thinking throughout each chapter. Sidebars within each chapter reinforce clinical application of material, while key concepts review many of the learning objectives at each chapter’s end. There is also a Student Companion Website that accompanies the text.

In addition, reading exercises at the end of each chapter reference key clinical articles and more than 500 new references represent advances in the field since 2000, according to Pearson.

The book was used by Zraick when he was an undergraduate and graduate student in the 1980s. “The opportunity to coauthor this textbook is a dream come true for me,” stated Zraick, adding, “Dr. Daniel Boone, the lead author, has been my mentor for nearly 30 years. The reality that the book’s legacy now rests largely in my hands is quite exciting and humbling.”
