UALR artist named among 2014’s “Arkansas Visionaries”
David Bailin, a UALR adjunct professor in the Department of Art, was recently named among several 2014 “Arkansas Visionaries” in the Aug. 28 issue of Arkansas Times.
The publication described Bailin as a “cerebral artist whose drawings are narrative works that reflect an evolution of his ideas in archetypical form.” The article detailed the constant revisions Bailin undergoes to achieve perfection in each of his works.
The article quotes Bailin as saying his studio has never been his friend, but if the process was all smooth sailing, he’d be “making wallpaper.”
Bailin’s next project is about memory and senility.
His recent show at the UALR art galleries included several large-scale narrative works focused on an isolated male figure in an office space, executed on a heavyweight-prepared paper in charcoal and coffee.
Bailin has a master of arts degree from Hunter College in New York City and a bachelor of fine arts degree in painting from the University of Boulder in Boulder, Colo.
He moved to Arkansas in 1986 with his wife, Amy Stewart.
