Hispanic Heritage Month honored through special events

The UALR Office of Campus Life in conjunction with the Hispanic/Latino Initiative is hosting several activities in honor of Hispanic Heritage Month through Oct. 15. Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. For more information on any of these events, please contact the Office of Campus Life at 501.569.3308Hispanic-Heritage Wednesday, Oct. 1 Movie: Cesar Chavez Donaghey Student Center (DSC) Ledbetter B 6 p.m. Chronicling the birth of a modern American movement, Cesar Chavez is the story of the famed civil rights leader and labor organizer torn between his duties as a husband and father and his commitment to securing a living wage for farm workers. His triumphant journey is a remarkable testament to the power of one individual’s ability to change the world. Thursday, Oct. 2 Lecture by Chuck Romero DSC Ledbetter A Noon Co-Sponsored by The Alliance “I’m Not That Kind of Gay”– In this lecture, Romero relates how he successfully navigated a family upbringing that was heavily influenced by religion, and created a fulfilling life with his committed partner of 27 years.
