Memorial Service to Remember UALR Artist

Little Rock’s art community will honor and remember UALR Professor Emeritus and Artist-in-Residence Al Allen at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 1, in a memorial service at the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in UALR’s Fine Arts Building. Allen, who died Feb. 14 at the age of 82, was a nationally-recognized artist with paintings being currently exhibited in over 30 art galleries. His art is held in hundreds of private collections, and two of his paintings were displayed at the White House for seven years. In 2002, he was awarded the Arkansas Governor’s Award for Best Achievement in Art. Allen is survived by his wife, Juanita, his son Eric, and three grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requested that contributions be made to the UALR Art Department.
