Psychologist Presents ‘Emotional Intelligence’ Lecture
Marie Wilson Howells Speaker Series sponsored by the Department of Psychology will present a public lecture, “What Everyone Should Know About Emotional Intelligence,” by Dr. John D. Mayer of the University of New Hampshire at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at the Dickinson Hall Auditorium. Admission is free.
Mayer, professor of psychology of the University of New Hampshire, has authored or coauthored more than 100 scientific publications ranging from peer-reviewed theoretical advances and empirical research to psychological tests and textbooks.
His 1990 articles with Dr. Peter Salovey on emotional intelligence are often credited with beginning scientific research in that field. Two of his peer-reviewed articles have received the Mensa Education and Research Foundation’s Award for Excellence. A third has been reprinted as an “essential reading” in social psychology in an edited volume by Dr. Gerrod Parrott. He has been an invited reviewer of emotional intelligence for the “Annual Review of Psychology.”
He has lectured nationally and internationally on topics related to personality psychology, in public, business, governmental, and academic forums. For additional information, contact Dr. Tommy H. Poling at 501.569.3171.
