Two Honored as ITA Scholar-Athletes

Senior Veronique Luksich and sophomore Michaela McShane of the UALR Women’s Tennis Team have been honored by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association as Scholar-Athletes for the 2011-12 year.

Luksich, a native of East London, South Africa, ended her junior season with a team-best 16-8 singles record and 16-9 doubles tally. She and McShane teamed up to go 16-6 on the year with wins against Sun Belt Conference foes Troy University, Arkansas State, and Middle Tennessee to their credit.

A criminal justice major, Luksich had a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the Spring 2012 semester and sports a 3.93 cumulative GPA in her three years at UALR.

McShane compiled a 12-14 singles record in her freshman season while playing the bulk of her matches at the No. 4 singles spot. The Melbourne, Australia, native also finished the season with a 16-9 singles record, thanks in part to her 16-6 record when paired with Luksich. The two ended the season on an eight match win streak. A business major, McShane sports a 3.61 GPA after her first year at UALR.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must be a varsity letter winner, earn a GPA of at least 3.50 for the current academic year, and have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters.
