Dr. James W. Parins, associate director of UALR’s Sequoyah National Research Center, has published an article in the most recent issue of Elohi – Indigenous Peoples and the Environment.

The article, “The Shifting Map of Cherokee Land Use Practices in Indian Territory,” describes the adaptation of white land-use patterns by Cherokees after removal and prior to allotment.

The collections of UALR’s Sequoyah National Research Center constitute the largest assemblage of Native American expression in the world. The center’s mission – to acquire and preserve the writings and ideas of Native North Americans – is accomplished through collecting the written word and art of Native Americans and creating a research atmosphere that invites indigenous peoples to make the center an archival home for their creative work.
