Gov. Mike Beebe recently named a UALR Bowen School of Law alum to the University of Arkansas Board of Trustees.

Charles “Cliff” Gibson III, of Monticello, earned his juris doctorate at UALR while serving on the editorial board of the UALR Law Journal. The appointment replaces Mike Akin of Monticello and expires March 1, 2023.

In 1981, Gibson established his own law firm in Monticello, where he continues to practice, also serving as attorney for Drew County for the past 12 years. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Arkansas at Monticello.

“Cliff’s appointment helps ensure a dependable voice on the Board for the U of A campuses in South Arkansas,” Beebe said. “His sound judgment and calm demeanor will serve the entire system of schools well in the coming years.”

Beebe has appointed Gibson multiple times as a Special Justice to the Arkansas Supreme Court. A former recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the City of Monticello, Gibson has also been president of the Monticello Economic Development Commission.
