Quills & Pixels seeks photos from UALR community
The staff of Quills & Pixels, UALR’s peer-reviewed journal of nonfiction writing, is looking for digital photographs to illustrate its 2014 issue.
The deadline for submission is Saturday, March 15. Photographers whose images are selected for publication will receive publication credit plus two copies of Quills & Pixels 2014.
The theme of the issue is “Under the Influence.” Photographers from all parts of the UALR community — students, alumni, faculty, staff, professionals, hobbyists, and amateurs — may submit a maximum of three original, unpublished images.
While the editors of Quills & Pixels believe the theme may conjure images of drunk drivers and drug users for some, the larger issue is that everything is, in fact, under the influence of something and nothing stands alone.
That influence may come from others’ opinions, a person’s own compulsions and feelings, kinship, and even technology. Imaging these influences can be both difficult and profoundly interesting, say Quills & Pixels editors.
Images may be in color or black and white, in any format readable by Photoshop, and at a minimum of 300 pixels per inch. Images that do not fit these guidelines will not be considered.
Images may be cropped or resized to meet the requirements of publication, but the publication will work with photographers to ensure as high a quality as possible within the constraints of production and printing.
Photos may be submitted to cmanderson@ualr.edu with the subject line “Quills & Pixels Photo Submission.” Photographers also may submit the image files via any photo sharing service such as Picasa or Flickr. Photographers should include name and email address to be considered.
