Anderson Institute on Race and Ethnicity

Dr. Warigia Bowman, assistant professor of public policy at the Clinton School of Public Service, will deliver a lecture on rhetoric and legislation concerning immigration on May 1.

Dr. David Briscoe, professor of sociology at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, recently kicked off the Anderson Institute on Race and Ethnicity’s lecture series, Plain Talk on Race and Ethnicity, with his presentation of “How Can Black Parents Rear Their Children to Be Black Americans in a Color Conscious Society?”

The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will honor Dr. Joel Anderson, chancellor emeritus of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, as one of five honorees at the institution’s Chancellor’s Benefit Saturday, April 28, at the Pine Bluff Convention Center. 

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock Anderson Institute on Race and Ethnicity honored the legacy of Gov. Winthrop Rockefeller and nine other individuals at the 2018 induction of the Arkansas Civil Rights Heritage Trail honorees. 

As part of Diversity Week at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Dr. David Briscoe will present a lecture, “How Can Black Parents Rear Their Children to Be Black Americans in a Color Conscious Society?”

A University of Arkansas at Little Rock student received an award from the Pulaski County Historical Society for her paper revealing the unusual history of Little Rock protestors who took on an African American-owned restaurant that practiced segregation. 

Dr. LaVerne Bell-Tolliver, an associate professor of social work at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, will discuss her new book, “The First Twenty-Five: An Oral History of the Desegregation of Little Rock’s Public Junior High Schools” at a book signing on Thursday, Feb. 15, at UA Little Rock.

University of Arkansas at Little Rock students have a chance to win a free trip to New York City to explore sites important to African-American history. 

Dr. John Kirk, director of the Anderson Institute on Race and Ethnicity at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, will present a lecture on the 60th anniversary of the desegregation of Little Rock’s Central High School as part of the Evenings with History series. 

In commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the integration of Central High School, John Kirk, director of the Anderson Institute on Race and Ethnicity at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, signed copies of his books on African American civil rights history in Arkansas along with members of the Little Rock Nine.
