Powell’s Paper on Insurance Liabilities Accepted

The peer-reviewed international research journal, Insurance Markets and Companies: Analyses and Actuarial Computations, has accepted for publication Dr. Lawrence “Lars” S. Powell’s paper, “Collateralization of International Reinsurance Liabilities in the U.S. Insurance Industry.”

Powell, an associate professor of finance in UALR’s College of Business, holds the Whitbeck-Beyer Chair of Insurance and Financial Services.

Business Developer Heads to Peace Corps

A team of UALR students will represent the United States at the World Imagine Cup Finals sponsored by Microsoft Corp. in Warsaw, Poland, July 3 to 8, with their IT application to identify and track the immunizations needed by children in the least developed countries of the world.

Wigand Presents on Social Media at Lima Conference

Dr. Rolf T. Wigand, Maulden-Entergy Chair and distinguished professor of information science and management, will present on “Taming the Social Network Jungle: From Web 2.0 to Social Media” with Dinah Mande and Jerry Wood, both graduate research assistants at UALR, at the Americas Conference on Information Systems in Lima, Peru, in August.

Two from UALR Accepted for Innovation Competition

Dr. Gary Geisler and Dr. Steve Edison, both professors of marketing and advertising, were accepted to make a presentation in the Cengage Pride/Ferrell Innovations in Teaching Competition at the Society for Marketing Advances conference in Atlanta in November. The competition winner will be invited to publish an elaboration of the innovation in the winter issue of Marketing Education Review.

Farewell Paper accepted for Accounting Conference

Dr. Stephanie Farewell, associate professor of accounting in the College of Business, co-wrote a paper, “Attesting Adios! Airways’ XBRL Filings: A Case Study on Performing Agreed-upon Procedures,” that has been accepted for presentation at the American Accounting Association annual meeting.
