Powell’s Paper on Insurance Liabilities Accepted
The peer-reviewed international research journal, Insurance Markets and Companies: Analyses and Actuarial Computations, has accepted for publication Dr. Lawrence “Lars” S. Powell’s paper, “Collateralization of International Reinsurance Liabilities in the U.S. Insurance Industry.” Powell, an associate professor of finance in UALR’s College of Business, holds the Whitbeck-Beyer Chair of Insurance and Financial Services.
Business Developer Heads to Peace Corps

Wigand Presents on Social Media at Lima Conference
Dr. Rolf T. Wigand, Maulden-Entergy Chair and distinguished professor of information science and management, will present on “Taming the Social Network Jungle: From Web 2.0 to Social Media” with Dinah Mande and Jerry Wood, both graduate research assistants at UALR, at the Americas Conference on Information Systems in Lima, Peru, in August.
Two from UALR Accepted for Innovation Competition
Dr. Gary Geisler and Dr. Steve Edison, both professors of marketing and advertising, were accepted to make a presentation in the Cengage Pride/Ferrell Innovations in Teaching Competition at the Society for Marketing Advances conference in Atlanta in November. Farewell Paper accepted for Accounting Conference
Dr. Stephanie Farewell, associate professor of accounting in the College of Business, co-wrote a paper, “Attesting Adios! Airways’ XBRL Filings: A Case Study on Performing Agreed-upon Procedures,” that has been accepted for presentation at the American Accounting Association annual meeting.
Beta Gamma Sigma Honors U.S. Bank President
UALR’s College of Business Beta Gamma Sigma has named certified public accountant Michael Shelley, president for U.S. Bank in Arkansas, its Chapter Honoree for 2010. The presentation was made May 7.

Dr. Gary L. Geissler, professor of marketing, won the 2010 Harper W. Boyd Jr. Professor of Excellence Award at UALR’s College of Business’ 33rd Annual Honors and Awards ceremony May 7.
First Quarter Arkansas Taxable Sales Up 2.4 Percent
The Institute for Economic Advancement (IEA) at UALR’s College of Business announced today the release of new preliminary* data showing a 2.4 percent increase in Arkansas’ taxable sales over the first three months of the year.
