Nicole Stewart, a junior studio art major at UA Little Rock, had a rare opportunity to work on a public sculpture that will be placed in the U.S. Capitol Building after interning with Johnny Cash sculptor Kevin Kresse this summer.

UA Little Rock alumnus and famed Arkansas artist Kevin Kresse has spent the past year of his life taking on a monumental task – creating an 8-foot-tall statue that will capture the life and legacy of country music icon Johnny Cash.

The public is invited to visit with famed Arkansas artist Kevin Kresse, a UA Little Rock alumnus who has been commissioned to create a new statue of country music icon Johnny Cash that will eventually represent Arkansas in the U.S. Capitol.

Benjamin Victor, the artist chosen to create a bronze statue of Daisy Bates for the U.S. Capitol, has been inspired by Bates for many years.

The artists who are creating the new statues of civil rights leader Daisy Bates and singer Johnny Cash that will eventually represent Arkansas in the U.S. Capitol will visit the University of Arkansas at Little Rock the week of April 25.

In 2000, Jack Kinnaman, founder of Kinko Constructors Inc., became enamored with a sculpture Kevin Kresse, a family friend, created for his daughter. The sculpture was so beautiful that Kinnaman asked Kresse to create a life-size sculpture for his home.
