Arkansas Gov. Mike Beebe congratulated 40 Latino and Hispanic scholarship recipients during the League of United Latin American Citizens’ annual scholarship banquet held Wednesday, Sept. 25, at the Governor’s Mansion.

Almost half of the LULAC scholarships awarded this year are going to UALR students.

Three UALR professors, Drs. Jeff Gaffney, Sarah Lewis, and Jeff Nash, will discuss climate change and its effects on economy, food sources, and the people of Arkansas from 7 – 8:30 p.m. Monday, April 8, at Second Presbyterian Church.

At first glance, a garden irrigation system and smog-eating concrete have little, if anything, in common. But both concepts aim to incorporate sustainability into academics, each winning this year’s micro-grant competition at UALR. The ideas will now become full-fledged and fully funded projects thanks to the Sustainability Committee.

Five UALR students will be among those honored Friday, Oct. 26, at the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) annual Scholarship Banquet.

A group of experimental and archaeology students will present a program on “Building a Community One House at a Time” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Toltec Mounds State Park.

The Toltec Station Archeologist and UALR Anthropology Students will celebrate Arkansas Archaeology Month by building a Woodland Period Southeastern House at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 11.

Elizabeth Bintliff, interim vice president of Heifer International’s Africa Program, will help UALR celebrate International Women’s Day Thursday, March 8, with a lecture titled “Women and Development.”

A screening of “Playing Fair: The Media Image of the Female Athlete” and a discussion of female athleticism will be presented at 6 p.m. Friday, March 2, in UALR’s Donaghey Student Center Room D.

UALR’s Gender Studies Program presents a brown bag panel discussion from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 17, titled, “Men and Gender: Perspectives on Masculinity, Male Identity, and Desire.”
