UA Little Rock to Host Bestselling Author Jeff Goodell Feb. 28
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will host a special visit by award-winning journalist and best-selling author Jeff Goodell as part of the university’s third annual Inclusive & Inspiring Speaker Series.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will begin at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, in the University Theatre in the Center for Performing Arts at UA Little Rock. Those who would like to attend may register online.
Goodell is a New York Times bestselling author of the book, “The Heat Will Kill You First: Life and Death on a Scorched Planet,” which examines the impact that temperature rise will have on the planet. During his lecture, Goodell will discuss extreme heat, sea level rising, geoengineering, climate change, and America’s energy future.
“We are excited to welcome esteemed author Jeff Goodell to our campus,” said Dr. Melvin Beavers, the chancellor’s inaugural fellow for diversity, equity, and inclusion. “His latest book is a powerful and eye-opening exploration of the significant changes and challenges impacting our world as a result of climate change. Jeff Goodell has dedicated the past two decades of his life to reporting on the issue of climate change, making him a true expert in the field.”
Goodell is the author of six previous books, including “The Water Will Come: Rising Seas, Sinking Cities, and the Remaking of the Civilized World,” which was a New York Times Critics Top Book of 2017. During his journalism career, Goodell has covered climate change for more than two decades for publications like Rolling Stone and The New York Times Magazine and is a 2020 Guggenheim Fellow. As a commentator on climate change and energy issues, he has appeared on NPR, MSNBC, CNN, CNBC, ABC, NBC, Fox News, and The Oprah Winfrey Show.
UA Little Rock’s Inclusive & Inspiring Speaker Series began in 2022 and is an opportunity for the campus community to hear from a variety of voices on subjects that advance understanding around issues of national and global importance.
Previous speakers include Heather McGhee, author of “The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together,” and Mónica Guzmán, author of “I Never Thought of it That Way: How to Have Fearlessly Curious Conversations in Dangerously Divided Times.”
