UA Little Rock to Host Inaugural Wellness and Inclusion Week
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock is set to host its inaugural Wellness and Inclusion Week March 11-15. A health fair and several free workshops and events will be open to the campus community.
“We’re excited to introduce UA Little Rock’s first Wellness and Inclusion Week, an annual event dedicated to enhancing the health and well-being of our campus community,” said Sharon Downs, assistant vice chancellor for student affairs. “Throughout the week, students, faculty, and staff will have opportunities to learn about keeping themselves safe and healthy, providing inclusive environments, and supporting one another in meaningful ways. Our aim is also to increase awareness of the vital services offered by our departments and how they contribute to student success at UA Little Rock.”
The health fair, which is free and open to the public, will feature free health screenings for everything from blood sugar and cholesterol to HIV and more. Representatives from Health Services, Counseling Services, the Fitness Center, and the Food Pantry will be available. UMR insurance representatives will be on hand to answer questions for UA Little Rock employees. Attendees can enter a prize drawing.
“Getting the Arkansas Minority Health Commission as well as Engaging Arkansas Communities to come out for the Health Fair will help a lot of people who wouldn’t otherwise get screened for serious health conditions,” said Chanell Smith, director of Campus Health Services. “This will save lives.”
Wellness and Inclusion Week will also feature a self-defense class, CPR and first aid training, Safe Zone and LGBTQIA+ allyship workshops, yoga classes, bystander intervention training, and workshops on Universal Design and adaptive technology to make university resources more accessible.
