The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will host Nerd Night Oct. 23 to highlight the exciting opportunities, research, and activities taking place in the Donaghey College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Nerd Night will take place from 5-8 p.m. in the Engineering and Information Technology Building and Parking Lot 8 at UA Little Rock. The free event is open to the UA Little Rock community and members of the public. It will feature food trucks, raffle prizes, hands-on activities, demonstrations, and exhibits from about 35 on-campus vendors and community partners.

Current and prospective DCSTEM students can learn about opportunities in the college including research opportunities, leadership programs, honors societies, careers, and student organizations.

Some of the activities that will be on hand include a planetarium from the Arkansas Space Grant Consortium, a paper airplane competition by the UA Little Rock Aerospace Club, and making punch with dry ice and elephant toothpaste with the American Chemical Society.

The Central Arkansas Nerf Club will showcase 3D-printed Nerf blasters, have dart-catches ready for use, and explain the process behind modifying Nerf blasters. The UA Little Rock Zebrafish Lab will host a display of fish in life stages ranging from embryos to fully grown adult fish.

There will also be laser demonstrations by Power Technology, demonstrations of CrimeScene 360 and Maximum AR app by the Emerging Analytics Center, a pop-up gaming lounge by the eSports Club, infrared cameras, veterinary-inspired jeopardy, and geology samples.

Those who would like to attend this fun and innovative event should register online by Oct. 16 in order to receive a ticket for the food trucks.
