Dr. Barclay Key holds an undergraduate degree in history from the University of North Alabama, an M.Div. from David Lipscomb University, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Modern U.S. History from the University of Florida. He taught at Iowa State University (2006-07) and Western Illinois University (2007-12) before arriving at UA Little Rock in 2012. Two Fulbright awards also gave him the opportunity to teach at Jan Kochanowski University in Poland (2009-10) and Universidad Veracruzana in Mexico (2017).
At the start of his career, Dr. Key’s research investigated the intersections of race and religion in U.S. history. In 2020, he published a book with LSU Press titled “Race and Restoration: Churches of Christ & the Black Freedom Struggle.” His current research examines the long process of school desegregation in the 1960s and 1970s, focusing primarily on the Little Rock School District. Dr. Key occasionally works as a volunteer for DecARcerate, the Central High Neighborhood, Inc., the Little Rock School District, and local political campaigns.
