UA Little Rock is home to the Zeta Sigma chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, the National Collegiate Spanish Honor Society. Sigma Delta Pi was founded at the University of California, Berkeley, in 1919 and has since expanded to include over 610 chapters in 49 states, making it the largest foreign-language honor society. Its motto is the Greek phrase “Spanías Didagéi Proágomen” meaning, “Let us go forth under the teaching/guidance of the Spanish language.”
Membership benefits include eligibility for study abroad scholarships and other awards.
Membership in the organization is limited to those who meet all of the following requirements:
- have completed three years of study of college-level Spanish (18 semester credit hours) or equivalent thereof, including at least three semester hours of a course in Hispanic literature or Hispanic culture and civilization at the 3000+ level
- have a minimal grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0-point scale in all Spanish courses taken
- have an overall grade point average of 3.2 on a 4.0-point scale
