The Chancellor’s Leadership Corps Scholars are well-known on campus and in the community. The CLC Scholars strive to produce excellent academic work and serve as community leaders. The freshman scholars alone provide more than 6,000 hours of volunteer service in the community. This past year, we volunteered with over twenty different organizations in the Little Rock Community.
Boo at the Zoo
Each year around October we have several groups of students in CLC that volunteer at the Little Rock Zoo for Boo at the Zoo. We help in a variety of different ways from face painting, treat stations, haunted houses and interacting with the kids.
The Color Run
A huge event that we love to participate in which takes place in Downtown Little Rock is the Color Run. We have participated by throwing color on participants in different color zones and helping with clean up after the race ended. The Color Run also makes donations in each city that it visits to local charities.
AR Kids Read
CLC has worked alongside the Little Rock School District for the past couple of years helping at Bale Elementary. We have several groups of students that volunteer at the elementary on a weekly basis meeting with elementary age kids for an hour to read and mentor them.
Pinnacle Mountain
Arkansas’s first state park which is used to promote environmental education, outdoor recreation, and preservation. CLC has had several service dates at Pinnacle helping in a variety of different ways including litter pickup, hiking trips, helping set up and take down for large events such as paws on pinnacle and race events as well.
Miracle League
According to The Miracle League’s website, there are over 250 Miracle League Organizations across the country and serve over 200,000 children and young adults with disabilities. One of our Ambassadors took his group out and they helped by selling tickets, working in the concession stand and taking tickets at the gate.
March of Dimes
March of Dimes an organization that helps pregnant women have healthy babies and research information on how to prevent problems that threaten babies. Last year we helped at one of their events they held called Bikers for Babies. One of our Ambassadors took her group out and helped set up tents, served food, sold t-shirts and helped clean up afterwards.
Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure
“The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Series, the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease.” http://www.komenarkansas.org/ We have participated in this event by handing out water, encouraging people while they are walking, and helping with events prior to the race.
Our House
Our House provides the working homeless – individuals and families – with shelter, housing, job training, education, childcare and summer youth programs, in order to equip them with the skills to be successful in the workforce, the community and their own families.
Pulaski County Humane Society
The mission of the Humane Society of Pulaski County is to rescue, care for and find homes for abandoned, abused, homeless and unwanted animals; to reduce suffering of animals; to investigate, prosecute, and prevent abuse; and to reduce the number of homeless animals through adoption, spay/neuter, and through education.
