Associate Professor of Rhetoric and Writing

Karen Kuralt Dr. Karen Kuralt is an associate professor and the graduate coordinator in the Department of Rhetoric and Writing. She is known for her work in technical writing and incorporating service learning in her classroom assignments.  

Dr. Kuralt has used service learning assignments in many of her introductory technical writing courses. She partnered with organizations such as the Arkansas Department of Human Services and had her students apply what they learned in technical writing to create manuals and brochures. In recognition of her work, she received the State of Arkansas Outstanding Service Award in 2005.

She has also represented her department and the university through her service in the community. From 2004 to 2006, Dr. Kuralt served as president of the Arkansas chapter of the Society for Technical Communication. During this period, she was invited to visit local organizations such as Acxiom and the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality, creating valuable connections for the university and its students. Dr. Kuralt’s work with various organizations has helped them improve their ability to communicate effectively, which in turn leads to many community benefits.

Dr. Kuralt has Ph.D. from Purdue University. She earned an M.A. and a B.A from the University of of Utah at Salt Lake City.
