Submit a Graduate Faculty Nomination Form to Grad Council

Graduate faculty status nominations are reviewed by the Grad Council Policy and Personnel Subcommittee every 2 weeks during spring and fall semesters. Nominations cannot be processed during summer semesters when Grad Council does not meet.

Who must apply for graduate faculty status?

  • Full-time UA Little Rock faculty who wish to teach graduate classes, serve on thesis and dissertation committees, or serve as their program’s graduate coordinator should apply for full graduate faculty status.
  • Part-time UA Little Rock instructors or staff members who wish to teach graduate classes or serve on thesis or dissertation committees should apply for affiliate graduate faculty status.
  • Professors at colleges and universities other than UA Little Rock who wish to serve on thesis or dissertation committees should apply for affiliate graduate faculty status.
  • Community members who have disciplinary expertise to contribute to a thesis or dissertation committee should also apply for affiliate graduate faculty status. In order to serve, the nominated community member must also possess a graduate degree, preferably equal to or greater than the degree that the student is earning.

The application process

School chairs, department chairs, and/or graduate program coordinators are responsible for nominating graduate faculty members.

  • First, fill out the Graduate Faculty Application Form.
  • The nominee should sign the completed form and supply a current CV.
  • The department chair should sign and date the form, then forward it to their college dean for signature.
  • The signed form and the CV should be attached as separate files to the Grad Faculty Status Submission Google Form.

The submission form then notifies the Graduate School that a nomination has been received, and the associate dean will place the nomination on the agenda for the next Policy and Personnel Committee meeting, usually within 2 weeks of the submission during spring and fall semesters.

Once the application is approved, the nominee’s name will be entered into the Graduate School’s grad faculty database, and their name will be available for selection on supervisory committee forms for proposals and defenses. If for any reason the application is not approved, the Grad Council chair will communicate the decision to the nominating school or department chair.
