Assistant United States Attorney in South Carolina
The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina is looking for a dedicated, analytical, and articulate attorney to serve as a criminal prosecutor in the Florence Division.
Job Description:
The selected applicant will serve as an Assistant United States Attorney assigned to the Criminal Division with responsibilities commensurate to the applicant’s experience and abilities. These responsibilities – working independently and with other AUSAs – will include both investigating and prosecuting federal crimes. The investigative work will include working with federal law enforcement partners to utilize the array of investigative techniques available – e.g., federal grand jury work, search warrants, interviews, subpoenas, document review, electronic surveillance and wiretaps, etc – to reveal evidence of criminal conduct. The AUSA will also be responsible for prosecution, including indictments, arraignments, detention hearings, motions practice and hearings, legal research, plea negotiations, trial and sentencing. Additionally, following convictions, AUSAs are required to shepherd their cases through direct appeal in the Fourth Circuit and in federal habeas proceedings under 28 U.S.C. §2255. Duties also will include some administrative responsibilities and developing working relationships with state and local authorities as well as the community.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
