The Arkansas Court of Appeals is now accepting applications for the position of Chief Staff Attorney, with employment to begin January 2, 2018.
The Chief Staff Attorney is the primary non-judicial administrative employee of the Arkansas Court of Appeals, a twelve-judge judicial body with forty-nine employees. Duties of the Chief Staff Attorney include preparing the Court’s annual budget; working with the Arkansas Legislature to secure the Court’s biennial budget; overseeing payroll, asset purchases, and other Court expenditures; preparing and submitting monthly and year-end reports as required by the State; managing the Court’s asset inventory; meeting with State auditors; control and management of the Court’s weekly case docket; working closely with the Chief Judge and other Judges on various administrative and judicial matters; supervising other staff attorneys and administrative employees; and other matters as assigned by the Court.
The ideal candidate for the position will have proven organizational and supervisory skills; a basic understanding of government budgeting and legislative processes; familiarity with the appellate court system; and the ability to work with a variety of people. Knowledge of AASIS, CourtConnect, Excel, and Microsoft WORD is preferred, as is familiarity with State employment regulations. The applicant must have an Arkansas law license in good standing, with at least five years’ experience in law practice or government employment.
The position is a Grade GS13, with the starting salary negotiable based on experience. The employee is eligible for most state benefits, including state retirement, group health and life insurance programs, and HSA and FSA.
