The deadline to apply for the Part-Time Student Practicum course is 12:00PM (noon) Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

IMPORTANT: Please follow all application instructions/prompts carefully while entering your information to ensure your application can be considered.

Only submit one application. Additional submissions will not be considered (they are time-stamped when submitted).

This application is for the Practicum program for part-time law students only. If you are a full-time law student or are interested in the Public Service Externship program, please apply here.

Judicial Practicum students are prohibited from engaging in outside employment in the legal profession (whether paid or unpaid) that poses a conflict of interest with the work of a judge with whom they are placed. The faculty supervisor and judge will determine whether a student’s employment presents a conflict. Outside employment in the legal profession must be disclosed on the Judicial Practicum application.

Before you begin this application, make sure you have a current résumé and a typed statement not longer than two pages, double-spaced, explaining why you would like to participate in the Practicum Program. Both of these items must be in PDF. The system will not save any other attachment format, rendering such applications incomplete.

Please see the Judicial Course Overview and Prosecutor Course Overview.

Selection criteria for practicum placements are:

  • initiative, self-motivation, reliability, and a strong work ethic;
  • judgment, temperament, and office demeanor;
  • academic qualifications (grade point, class rank, honors, activities);
  • strong writing, research, and people skills;
  • relevant work or volunteer experience;
  • years of law school completed; and
  • enthusiasm for and interest in public service work.
