The UA Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law is located in the heart of Arkansas’s capital city, convenient to a variety of opportunities for law students. You are only minutes away from the highest state, local, and federal courts; government agencies; and the state’s largest law firms and nonprofit organizations. Study during the day and network in the evening with our active and involved alumni. In fact, approximately one-third of the Arkansas judiciary are Bowen alumni.
Little Rock is home to one of Mensa’s top ten science museums; world-class art from Cezanne, van Gogh, and O’Keefe (to name a few); a presidential library; and the nation’s first master’s program in public service. All are within walking distance of Bowen.
Take a virtual tour of Little Rock.
Bowen Advantages
Bowen offers the lowest tuition and the highest first-time Bar Pass rate in the state (July 2017). Students are guaranteed hands-on training to learn the skills they will need in practice from clinic, externship, or judicial practica opportunities. Bowen is also home to the only part-time law program in Arkansas which can help balance your work/life commitment.
Culture
Little Rock Central High School is nationally recognized for its role in the desegregation of America’s public school system. The Little Rock Nine resisted the segregationist culture, supported by the then Arkansas governor, and exercised their federal rights to attend the previously all-white school. Today the school still holds classes and is registered as a National Historic Site.
If you like live performances, check out the schedules for The Rep, The Weekend Theater, the Robinson Center, and the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra.
Art
Bowen is located in the historic Quapaw Quarter district of downtown sharing the picturesque MacArthur Park with the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts. ESSE Purse Museum is also close by and is one of only three purse museums in the world exploring the confluence of function and fashion, art and history, and the story of the American woman and female empowerment. The Vogel Schwartz Sculpture Garden is downtown along the walking trail on the banks of the Arkansas River. Little Rock hosts a 2nd Friday Art Night, and just over the river is North Little Rock’s Argenta Arts District.
Nature
Arkansas isn’t known as the Natural State for nothing. Step outside, you are not far from a trail, lake, or campsite. With 52 state parks, you’ll find the right outdoor playground for you.
Little Rock is home to the longest specially-built bicycle and pedestrian bridge in the country, the Big Dam Bridge, which is one of the highlights of the Arkansas River Trail. Out past the bridge, but still close enough for a quick trip, Pinnacle Mountain State Park offers various levels of hiking, climbing, and other outdoor activities.
We are committed to the well-being of our students. We have a gym on the sixth floor so you can work out while overlooking the park and the city skyline. We also offer regular fitness classes such as yoga, HIIT classes, and strength training. Our location provides access to great walking paths where you can take a stroll between classes.
Bowen’s location and facilities are just another reason it is a great place to attend law school. Stop by to see for yourself.
