‘Not Just for Prayer’: Getting to Know the Islamic Center of Little Rock

Located at 3224 Anna Street, near the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, the Islamic Center of Little Rock was established in 1992. Since that time, it has grown from a single, small worship center, to a place that serves the religious, educational, social, and cultural needs of Muslims in Central Arkansas. The Islamic Center of Little Rock contains a masjid (or mosque), the Huda Academy Islamic School, a Community Center, and a Sunday School. As the Imam of the Islamic Center, Dr. Mahmood Hassan E. Hassanein, says “it is not just for prayer.”

In fact, the Islamic Center of Little Rock is not even just for Muslims. The Islamic Center is very active in the community and regularly hosts interfaith dialogue events. They also have a Food Bank on site that distributes to food to anyone in need every other Saturday.

When Hurricane Harvey hit Houston in 2017, the Islamic Center of Little Rock leapt into action, gathering food and supplies to send to victims. Partnering with other community organizations, they were able to send a huge moving truck of aid to help hurricane victims.
The Islamic Center of Little Rock hosts an Open House every Friday from 1:30-3:00. Those interested in learning more about their faith and their community engagement activities can join for sermon and prayer from 1:30 to 2:15 and meet and greet with the Imam and the Community from 2:15-3:00.
