Fair Offers Volunteer Opportunities

UALR’s Office of Community Engagement invites all students to attend the 2011 Service Fair 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, to explore the more than 30 local organizations offering volunteer opportunities.

Agencies participating in the fair include Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Arkansas Foodbank Network, Arkansas Hospice, Lighthouse for the Blind, Big Brother Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity of Saline County, March of Dimes, Oak Forest United Methodist Church, Pulaski County Youth Services, SOAR Homeless Network, UALR Children International, Youth Home, and more.

UALR’s Office of Community Engagement (OCE) was established in 2001 to facilitate the building of partnerships between UALR faculty, staff, and students and the community to help the community access the knowledge and intellectual capital on the UALR campus and to support outreach as a critical component of UALR’s academic culture.

This mission is rooted in the vision that a metropolitan university such as UALR is an integral part of its region, working with its community to shape their joint future. OCE assists in stimulating UALR students to care deeply and passionately about the world around them and become leaders in the fields in which they choose to contribute.
