Band, Percussion Ensemble in Concert May 4

Fresh from a gig at Morgan Freeman’s blues club in Clarksdale, Miss., UALR’s Trojan Pep Band and Percussion Ensemble will perform in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 4, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the UALR Fine Arts Building.

The event is free and open to the public and is sponsored by UALR’s Department of Music. For more information, contact Charles Law at 501-569-3294.

The Percussion Ensemble, directed by Law, will perform various selections featuring members of the ensemble performing works by Yes including “Heart of the Sunrise” and “Mood for a Day.”

The ensemble will also perform with a narrator to present a tribute to veterans and families featuring the music of Samuel Barber’s “Adagio for Strings.”

The concert will feature Guido Richie on trumpet and Matt Dickson on tenor saxophone – both are music department alumni.

In addition to performing at Freeman’s Ground Zero Blues Club, the pep band also performed at the annual Juke Joint Music Festival, the only university group to do so. The group has performed across the Midwest from Chicago to New Orleans.
