Student Journal Celebrates Publication Oct. 12

Equinox, the UALR student-run journal of contemporary literature and art, will host its annual magazine launch party from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, on the third floor of the Cox Creative Center at 120 President Clinton Ave.
Authors of both fiction and poetry in the current edition of Equinox will give readings of their works and participating artists and authors will be present to discuss their work.

That Arkansas Weather, a local jazz trio, will provide music entertainment. Wine and light refreshments will be served.

The event, which coincides with the popular Second Friday Art Night in downtown, will honor the contributors of Equinox with a retrospective art exhibit featuring student paintings, photography, and sculpture. Creative writing students will read their poems and stories.

For more information about the event and about Equinox, contact Assistant Professor Nickole Brown of the UALR Department of English at 501.569.8314 or at lnbrown@ualr.edu.

“This is a truly exciting step for UALR’s student-run magazine. The exhibit is off-campus, open to the public, and the launch party will feature readings by over a dozen emerging writers,” said Brown, who is the the faculty adviser for the journal. “This event is representative of the amazing collaborative energy between students from both visual arts and creative writing, and it’s such a pleasure to see the magazine come to fruition, to see the artistic endeavors of these hard-working students shine.”

The art exhibit is curated by two UALR art history graduate students – Rachel Golden and Alex Leme – and features a variety of media represented in Equinox as well as the work of artists who have contributed to the development of the publication. The exhibition will remain on display through Saturday, Dec. 1.
