Scholars to Address Climate Change at Forum

Three UALR professors, Drs. Jeff Gaffney, Sarah Lewis, and Jeff Nash, will discuss climate change and its effects on economy, food sources, and the people of Arkansas from 7 – 8:30 p.m. Monday, April 8, at Second Presbyterian Church.

climate changeThe three scholars will present research and suggestions on managing the effects of climate change on Arkansas businesses, agriculture, and family life and how individuals can help.

According to the United States Environmental Protection Agency, “Climate change refers to any significant change in the measures of climate lasting for an extended period of time.”

Gaffney, the chair of the UALR Department of Chemistry, will talk about how these changes in the environment affect crops and people while Lewis, from the Department of Sociology, will address the need for technology and businesses to adapt to these changing environmental factors.

Nash, chair of the Department of Sociology, is expected to talk about how climate change how will affect the daily lives of families especially concerning the economic system, public opinion, and energy use.

The event will be moderated by Dr. Warigia Bowman, professor of public service at the Clinton School of Public Service.
