Residents vote to form new neighborhood association

Residents gathered for a recent meeting, voting to form a neighborhood association in the area of UALR

Residents in the areas between University Avenue and Boyle Park Road and south of the Broadmoor neighborhood in Little Rock recently voted to form a neighborhood association.

The new University West Neighborhood area includes about 500 households and subdivisions that were developed during the 1950s and 1960s.

Membership in the new association is open to everyone who resides in the area as well as businesses, churches, and other organizations within the boundaries.

The newly formed organization adopted bylaws and elected the following officers: James Mayhan, president; Rodney Bernard, vice president; Chuck Bomer, secretary; and, Catherine Carter, treasurer.

The University West Neighborhood Association membership is open to all persons who reside in the area as well as businesses, churches, and other organizations located in the area.

In addition, the newly formed organization adopted bylaws and elected the following officers: James Mayhan, president; Rodney Bernard, vice president; Chuck Bomer, secretary; and, Catherine Carter, treasurer.

Joe Busby, president of the University District Neighborhoods Association, chaired the meeting and has assisted the group in its organizational process.

The University District is a 3.5-square-mile area centered on University Avenue between I-630 and the Fourche Creek wetlands south of Asher Avenue/Colonel Glenn Road.

Located in the heart of the city, the University District is anchored by the UALR Campus and has a population of about 8,300 living in approximately 3,300 households.

The University District Neighborhoods Association includes the elected leaders of all of the neighborhood organizations within the University District. The active neighborhood associations include the Broadmoor Property Owners Association, Fair Park Residents Association, Point O Woods Residents Association, University Park Neighborhood Association, South of Asher Neighborhood Association, and the War Memorial Neighborhood Association.

The University District Development Corporation works closely with the neighborhood organizations on community revitalization initiatives.
