A graduate of the William H. Bowen School of Law at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock has been confirmed by the U.S. Senate to serve as the U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas. 

Cody Hiland, of Conway, serves as the 20th Judicial prosecuting attorney, which serves Faulkner, Van Buren, and Searcy counties. President Donald Trump nominated Hiland after receiving recommendations by Sen. John Boozman and Sen. Tom Cotton. Hiland was confirmed by the U.S. Senate on Sept. 28 to serve a four-year term as U.S. Attorney.

“I am pleased that the Senate confirmed Cody, who I am confident will be an excellent U.S. Attorney,” Boozman said in a press release. “He has the commitment, experience, and expertise necessary to tackle the challenges he will face in this new role. I congratulate Cody and look forward to working with him to help make our communities safer.”

Hiland graduated from Bowen in 1998. He is a former partner at Hiland, Thomas & Cox, PLLC in Conway. He also previously served as staff attorney and rural and community liaison for the Arkansas Public Service Commission; program director for the Arkansas Transitional Employment Board; and legislative liaison and aide to Gov. Mike Huckabee.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office Eastern District of Arkansas includes five divisions and 41 counties in the state. It is responsible for representing the federal government in virtually all litigation for this district.

This includes criminal prosecutions for violations of federal law, civil lawsuits by and against the government, and actions to collect judgments and restitution on behalf of victims and taxpayers.
