UA Little Rock to host Nov. 10 lecture on human trafficking
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will hold a free lecture on human trafficking on Tuesday, Nov. 10.
The talk, “How Do I Detect It and Protect People from Human Trafficking,” will take place from 5:30-6:30 p.m. via Zoom.
Melissa Easdon, director of the Emergency Department, Clinical Decision Unit, and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program at UAMS, will discuss how to identify human trafficking, the number of people affected by human trafficking, how to recognize and assist victims, and how to avoid becoming a victim of human trafficking.
With over 25 years of experience in emergency nursing, Easdon has seen firsthand the devastating effects of sex and labor trafficking on its victims. She has worked closely with multiple agencies, including the Arkansas Hospital Association, PATH (Partners Against Trafficking Humans), and the FBI to develop educational materials on the topic of human trafficking for healthcare providers in Arkansas. She offers similar education to a variety of community members, from business owners to students.
The event is free and open to the public. Those who would like to attend should register at this link, and they will be emailed a link to the lecture.
The event is hosted by the UA Little Rock Department of Personal Awareness, First Year Experience and is part of the Student Success Workshop Series. For more information, contact Trakenya Dobbins, director of personal awareness, at tgdobbins@ualr.edu.
