Garnett Elected President of Women in French

Mary Anne Garnett, chair of the Department of International and Second Languages Studies and professor of French at UALR, has been elected president of Women in French (WIF). WIF is an allied organization of the Modern Language Association whose purpose is to promote scholarship among women authors writing in French.

WIF publishes a peer-reviewed journal, Women in French Studies, accessible online through Project MUSE, and hosts an international conference every two years. The next conference will be at Arizona State University in Tempe on Friday, Feb. 24, and Saturday, Feb. 25.

A native of Eau Claire, Wis., Garnett has taught French at UALR since 1992. She has also taught English to students overseas in France, in Rouen, Normandy as an “assistante d’anglaise,” and in a small town north of Bordeaux as a “lectrice d’anglais” at a language center for adults.
